Sustainable Practices All Venues Can (And Should) Adopt
Being a sustainable venue doesn't mean stripping things back, in fact it’s quite the opposite, it means MORE.

Compassion for people and the planet = Consideration for you and a strong attention to detail
We focus on the things that matter. Given fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) contribute to ‘89% of global CO2 emissions’ (Client Earth, 2025) fossil free energy is always a priority. Not only do we buy100% renewable energy from the grid, but the estate's watermill (the oldest working water mill on The Thames) also creates renewable energy for the grid through hydropower. Mapledurham estate is also home to an anaerobic digester (wood chips) and biomass plant (local manure) which create heat and hot water for residents of the estate. This was one of the reasons we chose the estate as our event partner!

A few of our other best practices, which we wish more venues would adopt, are:
Strict waste management (segregating recycling types and food waste, allowing no single-use plastics, and ensuring suppliers sign our waste policy)
Reduced travel emissions (hiring local crew, using EV’s and featuring on-site storage)
Considered materials (prioritising natural, non-toxic, used/refurbished, sustainably certified materials and products)
Vetted sustainable suppliers (prioritising suppliers who are B Corp, local, seasonal, UK based, circular and hold ethical policies and certifications)
Outdoor agenda’s designed to reconnect people with nature.
We take care of what's happening behind the scenes to make a more sustainable wedding or corporate event possible.
We also partner withTrace by isla, an independent carbon reporting partner, to report on the environmental impact of the venue build and of the events. Suppliers matter just as much as the venue. A wedding is dozens of supplier decisions stacked together; caterers, florists, decor, bar. We've done the vetting for you, choosing partners who favour local and seasonal catering, ethical and reusable flowers, zero single-use plastics and circular materials.
